Capcom surprised fans of its iconic horror franchise by announcing that Resident Evil Requiem will mark the long-awaited return to Raccoon City, the place where much of the biotech nightmare began.

Why Raccoon City Is Back

After several entries that explored rural European villages and the swamps of Louisiana, the Japanese studio is going back to its roots to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series.

In an interview director Koshi Nakanishi explained that this decision comes from the need to delve deeper into Grace’s journey, the new protagonist, while also exploring the lasting impact of the outbreak on survivors.

Producer Masato Kumazawa used a vivid metaphor to describe the creative choice

Returning to Raccoon City is like "opening a rice pot forgotten for a week: nobody wants to, but curiosity takes over."

With this, Capcom makes it clear that Requiem will balance nostalgia with answers fans have been waiting for.

There is also the possibility that this title could serve as a final requiem, closing open narrative threads from the earliest games.

Nakanishi confirmed that the story will focus on memory, loss, and how the victims of Raccoon City are remembered, hinting at a more human and emotional side to the horror. Early rumors suggest that at least one monster design will tie directly back to the original trilogy.

Gameplay Innovations in Resident Evil Requiem

For the first time in the franchise, players will be able to switch dynamically between first-person and third-person perspectives.

This hybrid approach is designed to increase immersion and give fans greater freedom to shape their horror experience.

Capcom also promises a new kind of pacing: “addictive fear” carefully balanced to avoid fatigue. The second gameplay trailer has already blown fans away, raising expectations even higher.
